Regarding Staff Decisions

In General, Rust by Dependable5 Comments

(Skip to TLDR if you have the attention span of a potato)

So I have been hearing some complaints about some decisions and selections we have made recently. Some people have been mentioning a bias. I wanted to come on here and make some comments to hopefully set a few things straight with our player base.

I started this server with the help my lovely girlfriend Destiny after we played on many many rust servers. Some we really enjoyed others we couldn’t believe how we were treated on. We wanted to create a community that was different. We wanted a server that stood out and maintained its professionalism even in the toxicity that is Rust. I started the framework of the server setup the general feel of the community, the slight acceleration, and modest modifications. When my last school term was upcoming I knew that I would need help maintaining the server as working a part/semi-full time job, an internship and also finishing up my last term of schooling would be very difficult. Nivex had been working around on the server, but really stepped up when I went back to school. Nivex also works full time. Destiny also works full time. When we aren’t at work/doing school work we are doing our best to improve every aspect of the DeadLaugh community and servers. 50 percent of the time when we aren’t directly working on something pertaining to the servers, we are discussing changes that might benefit the servers. Many of you know this as you join us in the team speak nightly and hear all of the things we discuss and our passion for making this community the best.

So why am I going on about this and why does it matter? If everyone knew the things we dealt with regarding the server and every little detail about every decision we make, you would see why we make the decisions we make. It may look really easy from the outside. One choice or the other, however we scour every detail and discuss every possibility of those choices. If we made a choice you don’t approve of than more than likely you don’t know every detail that we had to discuss to come to our conclusion.

When you think of making some one a moderator you might think, “Oh he seems like a cool guy, I’ve never had a problem with him…” however he may be one of the most toxic players on the server. You just don’t see the chat logs. Some other things that come into our decision may be the time of day they play… if we already have 3 moderators who play from 5 to 10 eastern then no, we probably aren’t going to pick you as a moderator if thats your play time. We can also only choose from the people who apply. Some one may be perfectly fit for the position, but only 8 semi-toxic players applied. We only have that pool to pick from. We also might choose some one who plays solo over some one with a group of 15.

Give the moderators a break. They are people too. Its hard to punish people you may play a game with, that’s why we try to have multiple moderators on, so that one moderator doesn’t necessarily have to be the bad guy and mute his clan mate, but he can say, “well dude you were kind of being an asshole…” As I said before though, we strive for professionalism, if you don’t have what it takes to mute your team mate in the event that they are behaving poorly then you shouldn’t be a moderator. We look for this kind of thing and we give warnings for it.

For those of you who think that some of us may have a bias towards some group or another. This is false, and kind of silly if you really think about it. We have worked stupidly hard to build this community. All of the admins work full time jobs. We don’t have time to sit and plot the demise of this group or that group. Honestly, we don’t care about the silly politics of the clans on the server, we just care that the most people have the most fun possible. If we aren’t working on this or that more than likely we are sitting around playing rocket league, we honestly could give a shit less who raided who, please don’t let your ego get the best of you…

TLDR;
We make decisions based on tons of variables that you probably don’t think of. We love each and every one of you (yes some of you can be annoying but we still want you to enjoy yourself on our server). We are far to busy to give a shit about the politics of clans/groups.

If you did read everything thank you for giving me the time,
Pbpredator

  1. It is true. Finding good team members means going through a number of potentials. Not everyone has the wisdom to see the situations for what they ARE vs what they COULD BE. Objective perception is a hard thing to come by. Unless you are the admin of a COMMUNITY, not just a server, you will never understand the true toils behind what a moderator/admin may have to do. Well said, Pbpredator. And great community guys!

  2. Wojak here guys. For those of you applying for moderator, I’d suggest you have a good rep on the server, help players even if you are not a staff member, offer to be on less popular times when we might not have a moderator on. Also, just let your application speak for itself, be professional, and, understand that if you do not get accepted it does not mean you were denied. Admins save applications they like for later when there might be a moderator who quits and we are short one.

    Also, please cut the admins a break, they have to work, and they pay for the server with their own money. They are constantly improving and expanding. And sometimes they will make a decision that you might like very much. But, hey, it’s always going to be in the best interest of the players.

    I wish you all a happy weekend and new wipe.

    -Wojak

  3. Less stacks on Deadlaugh EU, 10k stacks is more than good enough, 250k stacks are just insane, otherwise plugins are great on Deadlaugh.
